The Fallen Journalists Memorial design symbolizes the pursuit of truth, courage, and sacrifice in journalism. The first memorial in the nation’s capital made almost entirely of glass, the innovative design forms a cylindrical space at the heart of the site, representing how disconnected facts come together to create a story. The memorial offers multiple entry points, with all paths leading to a circular Remembrance Hall, where the First Amendment is inscribed on a central glass “lens.” At night, up-lit glass elements emit a soft glow, with the Capitol dome visible, symbolizing journalism’s role in democracy.
